Ophthalmology Surgery
Seeing clearly on the Cape
Cape Cod Healthcare
brings the best in surgical eye care to the Cape through ophthalmologists
admitting to both Falmouth Hospital and Cape Cod Hospital. Using the most
advanced diagnostic and surgical techniques available, our ophthalmologists
treat the most common eye needs on the Cape: glaucoma, cataracts and eye trauma.
They are also well trained in treating most eye diseases, using medical lasers
for diabetic eye disease and performing eyelid surgeries to treat conditions
like ectropion and entropion.
“We are all board-certified, offering up-to-date knowledge, training and techniques right
here on the Cape,” said Eugene Ciccarelli, M.D., board-certified surgeon. “We do small
incision and foldable intraocular implants for cataracts.”
Immensely powerful lasers are used for many surgeries, and computer-driven
instruments, such as the phacoemulsifier that breaks up cataracts, help deliver
state-of-the-art care.
“We’re constantly improving our abilities,” added Michael
Oats, M.D., board-certified surgeon. “For example, I’ve begun performing a new procedure
called conductive keratoplasty for presbyopia to reduce or eliminate the need
for reading glasses.”
Technology has advanced to the point where most eye surgery is done on an
outpatient basis, while still offering advantages of the hospital setting with a
team of nurses, anesthesiologists and technicians specially trained in
ophthalmology surgery that work together on a regular basis.
